African Rainbow Capital

Leading South African business figure Patrice Motsepe established Ubuntu-Botho Investments ("UBI") in 2004 as the broad-based black economic empowerment (B-BBEE) partner to diversified financial services group Sanlam. UBI currently has a 14.5% shareholding in Sanlam.

As part of Mr Motsepe’s vision to establish a world class black-owned and managed financial services business, while maintaining its positive impact on the lives of black communities, UBI established African Rainbow Capital ("ARC") in 2015 as UBI's dedicated investment vehicle. ARC has a clear and articulated investment strategy towards unlocking value for its shareholders through strategic investments, including empowerment investments in South Africa, and has successfully executed on this mandate since its inception.

To date, over one million people have benefitted from the annual disbursement of funds through the Sanlam UBI Community Development Trust, which is one of the economic beneficiaries of UBI. In addition to wealth generated for its shareholder base, half of the retained profits of ARC will be redistributed to the South African community through various foundations.
